Winners of the contest Golden Crest for the best WWW homepages of towns and
villages were announced during the Conference Internet in State Administration and
Self-government 2000, which was held in Hradec Kralove in the days of 26--28 March 2000. Towns and villages of the Czech Republic representated by the Union of
towns and villages of the Czech Republic are aware of information technologies importance
not only as economy and welfare driving force but also as a democratic society development
tool. Information and communication technologies serve not only for e-business support but
also for a free access to information related to municipality and region life and
decision-making policy. They significantly contribute to the open and transparent public
administration in this way. On the occassion of announcement of the contest "Golden Crest"
Mr. Oldrich Vlasak, the Lord Mayor of Hradec Kralove, invited European towns and
villages and their associations to organize similar national contests to support
information and communication technologies within self-government activities as tool of
e-democracy support. The main object of the challenge is to evaluate information and
comunication technologies utilisation by European towns and villages as a tool of
democratic mechanism intensification, especially in the following spheres: The most extensive European countries experience will be presented
during the next annual conference "Internet in State Administration and
Self-government 2001". |
