Press Release

09/01/2005, 18:00

Preparations begin for the 9th Internet in Public Administration/Local and regional Information Society/Visegrád Group for Developing Information Society (ISSS/LORIS/V4DIS 2006) Conference

The aim of the ISSS/LORIS/V4DIS conference is to accelerate the adoption of modern trends in the area of electronisation of public affairs administration, to make use of the unique opportunity to exchange experience, to compare it with similar experience in the Pan-European context, as well as in the context of Visegrad countries which have a similar historical and cultural background and jointly became European Union members more than a year ago.

Issues of e-government at a local and regional level, and comparison of the experience of representatives of associations of municipalities and regions and representatives of municipal and regional governments from various countries in the context of Europe-wide initiatives and programmes (eEurope 2005 and, most recently, i2010), as well as discussions with representatives of Czech public administration and European organisations, will be the conference’s centre of gravity next year too.

What, apart from the traditional lecture blocks, will newly emerge in next year’s conference’s programme? Continuation and development of the issue of utilising ICT in the tourism industry will certainly be among the newly conceived blocks, both at the national and Visegrad and European level. This extremely prospective topic was first included in the eighth conference edition. An entirely new theme we intend to open at the ninth conference, also at the national and international level, is Gender Studies and ICT Use.

Just like in past years, the winners of the national competitions Czech At, Golden Crest, Geoapplication of the Year, Biblioweb and international contest EuroCrest will be presented with awards at a gala social evening. Worthy of mention in relation to the Golden Crest and EuroCrest competitions is the fact that, in connection with the greater scope afforded to ICT in the tourism industry issues, within the Golden Crest competition a special prize of the Minister of Regional Development will for the second time be awarded for the best tourism presentation on the website of a municipality or town (this time according to strictly defined criteria announced in advance, which will be made public during October 2005), and this viewpoint will also be taken into consideration.

As the conference countdown begins, you will gradually find more information on ISSS/LORIS/V4DIS 2006 (and, naturally, on previous conference editions too) at the conference website.
