@ Czech prize awarded to the "Looking into the land register" project of the Czech Geodesy and Land-Register Office

As has become something of a tradition, on the eve of the opening of the Internet in Public Administration (ISSS) conference in Hradec Kralove the results of the competition @ Czech were announced. The 2004 prize was awarded to the "Looking into the land register" project of the Czech Geodesy and Land-Register Office.

"This year, the association Sdruzeni Cesky zavinac decided to award the prize to this project mainly because it concerns a continuous and free service accessible to all internet users," Dr. Tomas Rencin, the ISSS Conference Director and member of the jury of the association Sdruzeni Cesky zavinac, said. "Looking into the land register is exactly the type of service that significantly facilitates contacts of citizens with a state authority and shows in which direction the endeavour for public administration informisation should head."

The application of the Czech Geodesy and Land-Register Office "Looking into the land register", accessible at the address http://nahlizenidokn.cuzk.cz, allows for free procurement of some selected data concerning allotments and buildings registered in the land register, as well as information about the status of individual procedures filed at the respective land-register workplaces, both for the purposes of registration of proprietary and other rights and for the purposes of confirming geometric plans. Publication of information about the status and course of procedure makes it possible to compare the status of the given procedure with other procedures and provides users with an overview of how their registrations are being attended to.

"The new service has immediately attracted attention among both the professional and non-professional public. Over the three months of its operation (January--March 2004) approximately 9 million reports were made, i.e. about 100,000 reports a day," Vit Suchanek, head of the Informatics Department of the Czech Geodesy and Land-Register Office, pointed out.

From the history of the @ Czech competition

In the first year, 1999, the prize was awarded to the Minister of Justice of the CR, Otakar Motejl, for making accessible the Companies Register (www.justice.cz) on the internet, as well as for the long-term openness of the approach to the needs of the general public.

In 2000 the jury conferred the prize on the Office of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic for the project Czech Parliament Digital Library (www.psp.cz/eknih) with an archive of digitalised stenographic reports from discussions of the Czech Parliament from 1918 until the present time.

In 2001 the prize was won by the Ministry of the Interior of the CR for the Vehicle Search, Invalid Documents and Authority is Not a Labyrinth projects operated on the internet pages www.mvcr.cz.

In 2003 the prize was awarded to the "Common Czech-Slovak Digital Parliament Libraries" project carried out with the participation of the Parliament Library of the CR, the Office of the Chamber of Deputies and the Informatics Department of the Office of the Senate and the Parliament Library, the Parliament Archive and the Informatics Department of the Office of the National Council of the Slovak Republic.
